As I said in my last email Dr. Prabhakar was planning on showing us another temple…or at least that’s what we thought. The place however was not a temple. The first part of this ‘compound’ he took us to consisted of a large round building with which anyone could come and meditate. Pathways and a garden surrounded this building. It was beautiful. We went in and sat for a little bit. I assumed that after we finished we would just walk around for a few minutes (the garden wasn't that big) and then head back. Come to find out that in the back there was another gate that entered into another grander garden. It was picturesque. A man, whose name I forgot, lived in a little house with his wife. He was retired and his (and Prabhakar’s) guru had asked him to live in this compound to maintain it. If David and I could ever retire to this place I wouldn't even question it. We sat for a little bit talking while we ate a little meal (which included watermelon!) and sipped coconut water from a coconut. It was very relaxing. They then showed us inside their house. The trees between which the house sat were coconut trees that were spaced 20’ apart. The house therefore was only 14’. It was a small quaint home with a kitchen, living, room and bedroom but it was enough. There were two other building that the 10 servants lived in and one other mushroom looking building. The mushroom building was just for the Guru when he wanted to write. It was surrounded by a moat so that snakes can’t have access to the house. The house seemed a lot larger on the outside than it looked with a porch that wraps all the way around. David…you would have loved it!
That night a storm came in. At first is wasn't bad and Dr. Nuckolls told us that when monsoon season come they will be much worse (which has been predicted to come 4-5 days earlier instead of around the 15th like normal). A few minutes later, as the wind and rain picked up, Dr. Nuckolls withdrew his statement and said that this storm was probably the start of the monsoon season. We sat under the porch and watched the storm rage. Two trees that sat in the park, which we were in ten minutes earlier, snapped in half. The streets were littered with whole branches and other debris. As David knows I love a good thunderstorm and this one was the best one yet. I’m psyched for the monsoon season!
